However, some properties feature vertical (portrait) displays in lobbies or common areas.\nThese vertical screens can be used to display Cove content just like horizontal TVs — but there are a few important considerations around setup, formatting, and content support to make sure everything looks correct.\nThis guide explains how to set up and optimize vertical displays for the best experience.\n\nSupported Display Setups\n\nOrientation & Responsiveness\n\nContent Guidelines\n\nExamples\n\nTroubleshooting Orientation Issues\n\n📌 Supported Display Setups\n\nTo run Cove on a vertical display, the TV must support one of the following setups:\n\n✅ Smart TV with Wi-Fi\nThe TV has a built-in browser and can open a Cove display URL directly.\n\n✅ TV connected to Airtame (or similar supported device)\nAirtame allows you to cast the Cove display URL to TVs that don’t have smart capabilities.\n\n⚠️ Cove does not support direct playback of mp4 files or videos.\nIf a TV is currently looping an mp4 or running slides locally, it’s likely using separate media player software. To use Cove, you’ll need to switch the TV to a browser- or Airtame-based setup.\n🧭 Orientation & Responsiveness\n\nCove display pages are responsive, meaning they automatically adjust to the TV’s orientation when set up correctly.\nBest practices for vertical screens:\n\nUse portrait-oriented graphics for a clean fit.\n\nKeep important information center-aligned to avoid cutoff at the edges.\n\nAvoid wide banner images designed only for horizontal layouts.\n\nIf you have a combination of vertical and horizontal displays, you do not need to create separate display highlights. The images and text will be auto-adjusted.\n\n✅ The same display URL can be used for both orientations — no special version is required.\n📝 Content Guidelines\n\nCove supports several types of content, but some work better on vertical displays than others. Keep these guidelines in mind when preparing materials:\n✅ Supported content types:\n\nStatic images and graphics\n\nText-based highlights (e.g., building announcements, event details)\n\nSimple layouts designed to display key information quickly\n\n❌ Not supported or discouraged:\n\nVideos (e.g., mp4 files or streaming content)\n\nEmbedded or interactive web content (like iframes or live widgets)\n\nComplex layouts that rely on wide horizontal space\n\n💡 Additional tips:\n\nUse high-contrast colors and large fonts for readability.\n\nKeep text short and scannable — most viewers only glance at the display briefly.\n\nAvoid layouts that require horizontal scrolling or zooming.\n\nConsider simplifying graphics for portrait orientation to maintain clarity.\n\nSetup Steps for Vertical Displays\n\nConfirm Display Capabilities\n\nDetermine whether the TV is a Smart TV or uses Airtame (or similar).\n\nSetup and create Displays in the Cove dashboard.\n\nCheck Orientation\n\nMost modern TVs and Airtame devices will automatically detect portrait orientation and adjust Cove content accordingly.\n\nIf content appears horizontal or misaligned, refer to the Troubleshooting section below.\n\nReview Content Formatting\n\nAdjust layout or dimensions if text or images are cut off.\n\nConfirm Everything Looks Right\n\nDisplay a test page or preview of scheduled content.\n\nExamples\n\nIn all of the following examples, the same highlight and image were used for both the vertical and horizontal displays—the display automatically adjusted the size of the image and highlight.\n\nVertical display with Display Events/Highlights Full Screen enabled\n\nonly the Display Events/Highlights Full Screen option is checked here\n\nVertical display with Directory enabled\n\nuncheck Display Events/Highlights Full Screen\n\ncheck building name\n\nVertical display with Directory enabled\n\nuncheck Display Events/Highlights Full Screen\n\ncheck building name\n\nTroubleshooting Orientation Issues\nIf the TV does not automatically rotate and content appears stretched or cropped:\n👉 Adjust TV Orientation Manually\nSome displays require manual orientation adjustments:\n\nOn Smart TVs:\n\nGo to the TV’s Display or Picture Orientation settings.\n\nSwitch the mode from “Landscape” to “Portrait.”\n\nThis ensures Cove content formats correctly for vertical viewing.\n\nOn Airtame:\n\nOpen the Airtame dashboard.\n\nLocate the device and navigate to its Display Settings.\n\nChange the orientation to “Portrait.”\n\nWall-mounted TVs:\n\nIf the screen is already mounted vertically, orientation settings may have been preconfigured. If not, follow the steps above.\n\n👉 Power-Cycle the TV\nIf changes don’t take effect immediately:\n\nTurn the TV off, wait 10 seconds, and turn it back on.\n\nThis can force the device to reload display orientation correctly.","capture_id":"45a7f8cd9ffdb41c838d1199536916f0cf2142553f7d6db589b98f1561522788","captured_at":"2026-10-12T13:26:59.733Z","published_at":null,"indexed_at":"2026-10-12T13:26:59.774Z","truncated":0,"scope_tier":"primary","monitor_reason":"","last_error":null,"last_attempt_at":"2026-10-12T13:26:59.100Z","enabled":1,"evidence_notes":[],"text_available":true,"media":["https://support.cove.is/hc/article_attachments/42591520812820","https://support.cove.is/hc/article_attachments/42591520814740","https://support.cove.is/hc/article_attachments/42591530336148"],"interpretation":"Unreviewed source evidence.
