When a requirement is enabled, Cove blocks completion until those details are logged, creating more consistent records for billing and reporting. In this article we will discuss:\n\navailable Completion Requirements\n\nenabling Completion Requirements\n\nhow requirements are enforced\n\nallowing roles to bypass requirements\n\nbulk completion behavior\n\nAvailable Completion Requirements\nThree requirements can be enabled individually or in any combination:\n\nRequire Labor Hours: labor hours must be logged on the Work Order before it can be completed.\n\nRequire Notes: at least one note must be added to the Work Order before it can be completed.\n\nRequire Mileage: mileage must be logged on the Work Order before it can be completed.\n\nNote: Mileage is captured through Travel, which must be enabled for your site. Learn more in Travel Management: Logging and Tracking Mileage on Work Orders.\nEnabling Completion Requirements\nCompletion Requirements are configured by Building Admins from Work Order Setup. Enable the requirements you want enforced and save your changes. Requirements apply to the building they are configured for and take effect immediately on the next completion attempt.\nHow Requirements Are Enforced\nRequirements are enforced everywhere completion happens, on both the Dashboard and mobile, whenever a user attempts to move a Work Order to Complete or Closed. If any required information is missing, the status change is blocked, and the user is shown what still needs to be captured. Once the missing details are added, the Work Order can be completed as usual.\n\nAllowing Roles to Bypass Requirements\nBuilding Admins can choose which roles are allowed to complete Work Orders without required Labor, Notes, or Travel, while requirements stay in place for everyone else.\n\nChoose who can bypass: When Labor, Notes, or Travel completion requirements are enabled, Building Admins will see a new \"Allow the following roles to bypass requirements\" setting in Work Order Setup. By default, Building Admin, Building Manager, and Vendor User are auto-selected.\n\nRequirements stay visible: Users in a bypass role still see outstanding requirements as missing on Dashboard and mobile, but can complete the Work Order anyway. No Labor, Notes, or Travel entries are created automatically.\n\nNothing changes for everyone else: Users outside the selected roles must still meet all requirements before completing a Work Order.\n\nBulk Completion\nRequirements also apply to bulk completion from Dashboard tables. Each Work Order in the selection is evaluated independently: Work Orders that meet the enabled requirements are completed, and those that do not remain in their current status. A results message identifies which Work Orders were blocked and the requirement each one is missing, so they can be updated and completed.","capture_id":"5ac8e7c95ff0e9ec90a45607f87b6fcad6291c282b47b1857ed6d1cd81dc0ed9","captured_at":"2026-10-12T13:06:11.667Z","published_at":null,"indexed_at":"2026-10-12T13:06:11.706Z","truncated":0,"scope_tier":"primary","monitor_reason":"","last_error":null,"last_attempt_at":"2026-10-12T13:06:11.159Z","enabled":1,"evidence_notes":[],"text_available":true,"media":["https://support.cove.is/hc/article_attachments/53144522058388","https://support.cove.is/hc/article_attachments/53144522059284","https://support.cove.is/hc/article_attachments/53144522061588","https://support.cove.is/hc/article_attachments/54175664536212","https://support.cove.is/hc/article_attachments/53144554974996"],"interpretation":"Unreviewed source evidence.
